If you are looking for a spot that can comfortably
If you are looking for a spot that can comfortably accommodate a party of 5, then look no further! This house was the perfect option for my first trip to New Orleans, as it was close enough to be within walking distance to popular areas such as Frenchmen Street for jazz and the bars/nightlife on Bourbon, but still far away enough to enjoy some peace and quiet as well.
The house was very spacious, looked to be recently renovated with modern decor and appliances (such as a Google Nest thermometer), and it was very clean and well maintained.
The hosts are extremely prompt about responding to all messages and questions around the clock, and was even kind enough to personally have paper towels dropped off when I inquired if there any extra rolls after using up the one in the kitchen.
It was incredibly convenient that the house is literally a block away from a Walgreens as well as a fresh market grocery store, “Robért,” that had high quality local seafood and produce (comparable to Whole Foods).
Last but not least, this house location is within walking distance of St. Roch Market, which is a food hall, that seems to be sort of a local secret, since I didn’t see it mentioned in any tourist guides for places to eat. On our first night we were craving to eat oysters for a late dinner and most of the seafood restaurants were going to be closing soon at 9PM. At the recommendation of one of our hosts, we decided to check out the St. Roch Market and thankfully it was less than a 10 min walk from the house, so we were able to make it inside by 8:30 before the vendors closed up the kitchens. I am not exaggerating when I say that the 4 platters of raw and charbroiled oysters (along with the crab cake sandwich and seafood gumbo) that we got from Elysian Seafood were unforgettably mouthgasmingly good. Of all the seafood meals that we experienced during our 5 day trip in New Orleans, this very first meal from Elysian at the St. Roch Market set the bar really, really high, and I’d say it was probably the best meal — maybe even more memorable than Galatoire’s.
All this to say, the hosts are really knowledgeable about the city and food recommendations, so please utilize their expertise, and enjoy your time in New Orleans!
