REX: THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SCHOOL OF DESIGN
December 11, 2022 @ 9:00 am - October 20, 2023 @ 4:00 pm

The Louisiana State Museum in The Presbytère presents an exhibition to honor the School of Design, better known as the Rex Organization, celebrates its 150th Mardi Gras season.
Since 1872, the Rex Organization has been an integral part of New Orleans, both on and off the parade route, and this carefully-curated exhibit showcases the artistry, innovation, economic, and philanthropic history of this historic krewe.
See costumes, throws, and other artifacts preserved by krewe members and other historic collections, learn more about how Rex’s Pro Bono Publico Foundation helped revitalize the New Orleans Public School system after Hurricane Katrina, and watch vintage footage of the parade on Mardi Gras Days gone by. Along with a time-lapse video detailing float construction, the krewe’s Royal Artist will be making a float inside of the museum itself!
This installation will also have complimentary educational programs, including lectures, family days with hands-on activities, and sensory-friendly programs for those with autism and other developmental disorders.
Even when the parades are done for the Carnival season, this is a one-of-a-kind exhibit you won’t want to miss. All Hail the King of Carnival!
