Neighborhood

Although largely off the tourist radar, Central City has long been an important thread in the city's cultural tapestry. This is one of the city's major African American neighborhoods, and a major focal point for Second Line and Mardi Gras Indian culture. Heroes of the Civil Rights movement fought their battles for social justice in these streets, and today, Central City serves as another sort of staging ground: a jumping off point for revitalization of urban blight. Up-and-coming Central City is a working class area known for its Mardi Gras parades and unpretentious Cajun eateries. Exhibits, performances and film screenings at Ashé Cultural Arts Center celebrate African-American culture, while the Southern Food & Beverage Museum has displays on regional gastronomy and hosts tasting events. The New Orleans Jazz Market is a sleek modern venue for concerts and cocktails.

We loved the location. It was close to the French Quarter and tons of restaurants. Uber or Lyft rides were easy and best mode of travel. Neighbors were friendly and great conversationalist. The neighborhood looks sketchy at first but honestly we only encountered friendly people. Don’t judge a book by its cover. This place is a fairytale inside. The house was big and great for the 7 of us. The pool and back yard were perfect for hanging out and private. We parked our personal car in front of the house and took an Uber everywhere. I would stay here again during my next visit to NOLA.
